Scales of Fire

Prologue: 100 years ago, in the old Kivol kargi city.

The gates of the city had been breached, and the Kivol kargis were fighting for their lives. “Fire!” Shouted Queen Dustcloud. Several Kivol kargi soldiers shot out balls of spit, hitting a few of the Hiiva kargi soldiers and eating through their scales. But even though multiple Hiiva kargi fell the others pressed in despite their injuries. “Look out! Incoming fire breath!” Screamed a Kivol kargi right as the enemy soldiers breathed out fiery streams at the defenders, burning multiple houses and setting a few soldiers on fire. The screams of the burning were joined by more shouting from Queen Dustcloud. “Retreat! We can’t fight them anymore, we’re losing too many soldiers!” The surviving Kivol kargi soldiers slowly started backing up whilst keeping their shields in front of them, blocking any of the fiery attacks from the Hiiva kargi. A dark orange Hiiva kargi surveyed the battle below him. “Press in further men! Leave none alive!” Shouted General Pyre. Several of his soldiers released more bursts of fire, mostly being blocked by the shields but burning everything else. At another shout from Queen Dustcloud all of the Kivol kargis turned tail and ran to the city’s sewage system. The Kivol kargi soldiers turned around and held the enemy soldiers back while the civilians escaped through the sewers. Queen Dustcloud was the last Kivol kargi to enter, her general running beside her. “How are we going to survive? General Pyre will send his forces to follow us down here, and we’ll all be killed before we reach the end of these sewers!” Said her general anxiously. “Don’t worry Venomtooth. They won’t be able to catch us.” “How?” “This.” Replied the Queen as she held up a bomb. “Do you have a match?” “Yes, my Queen. Here it is.” Replied Venomtooth as he handed the Queen the match. She took the match and lit the bomb, dropping it and sprinting away along with her general. A few moments later they heard a loud BOOM as the bomb exploded, along with shouts from the pursuing Hiiva kargi soldiers. “We must leave this city behind and find a new place to live.” Said the Queen.
