On switch, to land fast press Y to start falling, while flying press Y to fly again to not take any fall damage.

I thought this was a funny useless tame until I got one on scorched earth. It is so fun and cool gliding over rexes and jumping off cliffs while being chased by baddies. My dear little Archie has saved me through and through.

You need a running start to gain momentum and speed while gliding, and the (X) button on xbox will start/stop gliding mid air. (Dunno the control for other platforms)

They live in the middle mountains of the red woods .

Can be used to solo the Tek Cave just by gliding over everything

Grabbed one with an argy to take back to base to tame but when leaving the redwood, the little sucker startled and was able to leap free to a nearby tree

Hello, I am the archaeopteryx lord's wife archaeopteryx lady, and I just want to inform all of you that he has killed many of innocent people because they were hurting the archaeopteryxes to knock them out. I think this is unfair for all the innocent people who just want to tame an archaeopteryx.

Been playing mobile since 2018(give or take) and never seen a female. Why?

Tip : if you're playing on mobile and can't find them then go to settings and on preserve battery mode that will remove all weather effects and other unwanted things which will make it easier to find them .

if you have a lot of chitin easy tame ( except if your playing brutal bc they torpor drain fast)

These creatures happen to be one of the best ways to get around, if you know how to use them. Have an ally pick you up with an Argy whilst you are holding one, have them fly up a decent height, and have them let go. You will literally be able to do laps around the map's edges without touching the ground if you know what you're doing! (Some training is required, so that you don't, say, accidentally throw it mid-air.)

Devs need to add chest piece for them so you can equip weapons while gliding

I have seen this tip pop up a whole lot lately but still see new comments on how you can’t land them. You can definitely land them. I myself play Xbox currently and to land them on it you tap x. You can also tap x again to make it resume flight. Also I would like to add to my last tip that they do only eat chitin after being tamed, so that might be a downside to those that don’t like being around bugs.🐜🐜🐜

In mobile version they don't use stamina while gliding and can glide the player regardless of his weight for example my archaeopteryx has 33kg weight while I had 300kg iron on me , glided just fine from redwood hill to all the way to herbivore island(my base) without any issue... Well there was a problem thou that archaeopteryx would not land as it never ran out of stamina so I had to whistle my Tapejara and get on it to land. This is possibly a bug so use it while u can ;) happy infinite gliding.

P.S. I was not in godmode or infinite stats.

Ok these are the best. I have one named Fluffy and here is how to tame one.

Get tranq arrows (I only had darts on me and it took me one dart)

Get bola

Find archy. This takes a while! Look in the redwoods.

Bola one and shoot. If there is two then you can tame both or live it free and in the wild (I watch Wild Kratts)

Feed it chitin. Bring more then the game tells you need. Always do this in case you need more.

Feed it narcotics if needed

Enjoy your fluffy ball of cute!

If you dont have any tranq arrows then just use a club but only for low levels though

These guys are really fast (bring bola's), they are really hard to find they usually spawn near the medium sized trees with the spiky leaves.

The one for the icon doesn’t do these guys justice. I have a gold, blue a red one and it’s beautiful

You can only find these in the redwoods. Have fun keeping an eye on them as they are high up in the trees. If they see you, they will flee. Bola the archaeopteryx so it doesn’t escape and knock it out, feed it chitin, and you have it tamed. Can be used as a parachute.

They are living parachutes really they are!!!
