Dracoverse reference reference:

Boards are 10 X 10 instead of 8 X 8.

Squares are round and referred to as cells(the spaces between the cells are usually filled with glass or marble).

Pieces are more draconically shaped than humanoid, and are less abstract compared to human pieces.

Pieces are renamed:

Kings as Messengers

Queens as Generals

Bishops as Guards

Knights as Wyverns(Draconic Version) and lancers(Griffin Version

And Rooks as Triceratops

There are also two piece types nonexistent in the human version;

The Ichthyornis, moves in the same manner as a knight but one cell further,

(though due to letter structure and psychological differences between humans and dragons, this is referred to as a half circle rather than an L, as with wyverns/lancers/knights)

cannot take another piece but may immobilize it until moved or taken by another piece, fills the empty spaces at A1, A10, J1 and J10, it is obviously carved to look like a bird.

And The Barricade, moves one cell in any direction it needs but cannot take another piece or be taken by any piece but the triceratopses/rooks. Wyverns/lancers/knights cannot leap over it, looks like either a brick wall with crenellations and a turret at either end, a blank rectangle, or a wall of rubble and barrels, depending on the set it is in.
