Tips & Strategies from the iOS & Android apps
Alright yall, if yall wanna tame yourself a feathery killer then this is the tip for you. Cozy up, cause we’re diving straight in.
Alright, first things first, if you want to tame this feathery freak, you need some GOOD prep. So listen up, get yourself some half decent flak, I recommend bringing 2-3 sets! The idea is if you miss your swings, it won’t be the end of the world for you. Pack that in your bags. Next, you need some taming food, as much as I would recommend Exceptional kibble, it’s not always at the ready, so if it’s not available a good second is some prime meat. Finally bring your weapon of choice: a torch, now listen up; quality DOES matter. If you swing a primitive torch around you’re going to do a lot less torpor than an ascendant one. I learned that when I tamed mine. So before that screws you up, bring good torches.
Now taming is a lot easier said than done. If you brought good torches and good armor taming is a breeze. You can find them all over the chalk hills on Valguero. First you must locate a trophy spire, it stands out like a sore thumb; twisted tree roots, and skulls around it. Once you hover over the spire, it will tell you the level of the Megaraptor guarding it. Now you wait for the Megaraptor to finish hunting if it hasn’t already, and finally you challenge the Megaraptor.
Congrats you made it to the most annoying part! Your vision will lower, and the air gets a little more… ominous. You will be trapped in a circular moveing motion around the spire, keep your back turned to the spire (because the Megaraptor I’m assuming WILL go for your back if you give it the chance.) and have your torch ready. The Megaraptor will be invisible and will emit quiet sound ques, so listen VERY closely unless you want to be caught off guard. Once it appears, it will be slightly transparent, and it will emit a roar, to which point you as the player will swing the torch in its face. The time frame you need to do this in is roughly 1 or 2 seconds, if you fail to do so, it will hit you once before it vanishes to repeat the process. Also DO note you cannot spam the torch since the minigame will not let you do that (I tried it myself), you have one swing per 2 seconds, so use them wisely. Another quality of life feature for this taming process is the obvious Torpor bar above your hotbar, so you will never forget how high torpor it is.
After you knock it out, you tame it like any other tame. Hope this helped, later!
1. Find a megaraptor and its kill pile.
2. Bring out a torch preferably a high dur torch and challenge the megaraptor for the kill pile.
3. Move around the pile and when the megaraptor approaches boop it in the nose with the torch.
4. Do this multiple times until it falls asleep.
Feed it exceptional kibble or higher to tame.
Megaraptors will spawn with a trophy mound nearby, looking like a twisting root with bones at the center.
I recommend clearing the area of hostile creatures beforehand as if they begin to attack the megaraptor during the tame it will stop the tame to fight it.
Wait until the megaraptor is distracted hunting or bring ghille so it doesn’t aggro to you and go up to the mound with a torch in your hotbar. The megaraptor will need to finish hunting first to start the game but it will come back to its mound eventually.
Higher quality torches will last longer and do appear to do a bit more torpor than basic primitive ones but not a significant amount. If you bring lower quality torches do bring lots of them!
When the tame begins you will be blinded by a fog and locked to only moving left and right around the mound for the duration. The megaraptor will approach you from the darkness and you have a split second to react and hit it with your torch before it hits you. If you successfully hit it first it doesn’t damage you and it adds torpor to its bar! If you’re not fast enough it hits like a truck and does break armor fairly fast.
The audio is directional so a good headset does help a bit with reacting fast enough but just hit it enough times with your torch and survive any mistakes you make and it will go down.
After going down it is as simple as putting food in its inventory. Good luck!
The megaraptor always appears behind you and makes a sound with that we can walk backwards, by looking left and holding D, then when we hear the sound we can hit. The second way is best once you’ve been hit and are slowed you look in a direction then when you hear the sound hit and turn around. Also the more melee on the torch the more torpor it will do.
If you're on console walk backwards & swing your torch with right bumper. It ignores the swing cooldown and you will hit the megaraptor first a majority of the time. Do be careful bc since you can hit the megaraptor many times it will only inflict torpor once but will take many hits off your torch
Hopefully ts doesn’t have an ability that makes it simultaneously a menace in pve and overpowered in pvp 🥀
Just walk in a continuous backward circle around the altar and swing when the raptor appears, nearly a 100% hit rate without having to flick the camera at all
