ARK: Survival Evolved & Ascended Companion
Tips & Strategies

QUICK NOTE! This creature will not be added to ARK: Survival Evolved. It will be an exclusive mount to ARK: Survival Ascended, Aberration.
ABILITY/UTILITY
The Yi Qi's ability is very unique, as it uses its feathers as a weapon. The Yi Qi is a very fragile dinosaur, but not weak at all. Usually, in a dual with a raptor, this creature wouldn't stand a chance. But, the Yi Qi soars overhead its target, dropping down its needle like feathers. This will activate a debuff, which make it so the more feathers put into the prey = the more damage the Yi Qi can do to it. The feathers do not do any damage, but they will stack up on each other leaving the target/prey more vulnerable with open wounds.
The Yi Qi can coat its feathers with certain substances or chemicals, such as Ascerbic Mushrooms, Aquatic mushrooms, Narcotic, Bio Toxin, Propellant, Reaper Pheromone Glands, and more.
Each coat has a different outcome/ability.
Ascerbic Mushrooms will act just like the fertile mushrooms, giving the target hallucinations and no oxygen.
Aquatic Mushrooms make it so the target gets a resistance debuff and a freezing spore effect at the same time.
Narcotic/Biotoxin makes the feathers act like a tranq arrow/dart. Now, this is supposed to be way better than scorpions or pachys. Its just about the equivalent to a crossbow or longneck rifle.
Propellant: This will light the feathers on fire, acting as a flame arrow. When shot at a target, the target will go up in flames.
Reaper Pheromone Gland: This cocoons the target and gives the rider a reaper pheromone buff.
TAMING
To tame the ferocious Yi Qi, you must first let it pelt your player with feathers. I recommend doing this on foot, as it will launch at you quicker. Once it lunges at you, hit it with a chain bola or a harpoon net to trap it. once trapped, you will then feed it Mutton or Regular kibble. Repeat this process until tamed.
The Yi Qi is commonly found in the Fertile/Mushroom forest, or even the Luminous Marshlands, but will not be found in the element zone, because unlike rock drakes, they take radiation damage.
SIDE NOTE
A few things, all the stuff listed on here may not be added, so don't come for me if theres something incorrect about this.
Two, I wrote this WAY longer than it is now but I hit the wrong button and it all got erased. sorry.
Three, this dinosaur is pronounced "Yee-Chee", not "Yi qwee"
Four, this is all information from the ark webpage or the Yi Qi dossier.
Hope this helped! One of the first tips. π¦€
More Yi Ling Utility Tips
Why does everyone make tips about its abilities from the fan submission of the creature.. wait for the dossier to release! Most of these features will most likely change! Or at least say βin the submissionβ instead of βit will haveβ it causes confusion, wait for wildcard to release the actual abilities, because they probably wonβt be the same as the submission. (take Rhyniognatha or fasola for example)
-Wyvernian
Suggestion: (take notes wildcard!)
Since so many people are saying it's too similar to velos and rock drakes, make it so the yi ling's feathers have different abilities that match the spores on aberration, and one other just because it sounds fun:
Freezing feathers; slow the enemies with each hit, stacking like the rhynio ability.
Hallucagenic feathers: make the enemy hallucinate, with a certain amount of feathers needed to be shot at the enemy to trigger.
Pheromone feathers: attract reapers, and make nearby reapers less resistant. If near the player, stops the baby from killing you, and provides a passive xp buff to the unborn reaper
Yi Lings are op
They dive bomb like griffins
They shoot bullets like velonsaur
They hang on walls
There super hard to tame
This is the first tip on Yi Qi
This creature will be on aberration when ASA comes out.
It will be a glider (not a flyer, more like a maewing or rock drake). We don't know about it's taming method yet, but it will be found in the blue and red zones of the map, not the green one. It will be able to shoot feathers that stack, and the more stacks there are on a Dino or player, the more damage will Yi Qi do to them. Good luck taming it when it comes out! - Tei
The Yi Ling is excellent for stealing Rock Drake eggs on Aberration, it's small, turns tighter than rock drakes, and can dash up to avoid drakes following you. Mutate/level stamina and health if using it for this purpose. After 25 mutations into health, i was sitting at 5,600 health, and at 15 on stamina, it was about 3,400 stamina. It will be helpful, and is better at traversal than a drake.
Probably the best middle game tame in abberation purely because its effectively a more acrobatic rock drake! I actually like mine more than my rock drake! The trick is you need to get your technique correct with it if so than it will become your best friend and a formidable battle mount which will follow you up until you get a rock drake
A great early/midgame dino (I don't get why people are saying it's a early game rock drake) you will need to get used to the mechanics but what sets it apart from rock drake is it's feathers. Overall it's not good good but it's good for early game
Itβs a velonasaur and a deinonychus. Honestly itβs definetly gonna be a great tame not just for abberation
I like this thing, definitely recommend for early game. It can get around pretty quickly, and it can shoot spines from above.
Reposting under proper dino (was posted under Ravager but helped me).
In case anyone is wondering what you need for the different feather types. Also Xbox hold X to change feathers (canβt have pet on shoulder or it brings up Shoulder pet options)
You forcefeed the Yi Ling different stuff for feather variants that have 5min effect:
-Congealed gas balls for **Volatile**
-Narcotics or Biotoxin for **Sedate**
-Tree sap for **Sticky**
-Nameless venom for **Poison**
