Taming & KO Tips

How do I tame a yi ling? Tips and strategies on taming and knocking out a yi ling.
Save your sanity and build a trap:
2x2 stone foundation
16 stone doorframe
Stand in middle, keep feather stacks at 30+ and wait for yi ling to dive, it'll get stuck on doorframe, throw plant species at head, feed narcotics, repeat...
This tip will show you how to tame a Yi Ling, since I’ve not seen anyone post something like this yet.
So you’ll need the following:
High durability armour
A lot of Plant Species Z fruit
A handful of narcotics or bio toxin
Once you acquire everything you need, head to anywhere near rivers/lakes in the green zone on aberration since they most commonly spawn there, when you find one it would be best to be at a flat surface. You will also need to clear out any other wild Dinos or Yi Ling that you aren’t trying to tame, once you do that you’ll have to let it pelt you with it’s feathers, when you get pelted with around above 30 feathers it will spin in the air then divebomb onto you and you’ll need to time throwing a Plant Species Z fruit at it when it does so.
If you do this successfully then the Yi Ling will become stunned, walk up to it and feed it either narcotics or bio toxin which will increase its torpor bar depending on which of the two you’re using, you’ll have to rinse and repeat this process depending on the level of the Yi Ling until it knocks out. Once unconscious, feed it it’s preferred taming food which is Exceptional Kibble and if you don’t have access to the kibble Raw Mutton will work just as well
I hope this helps anyone in the future for those that are stuck trying to tame one, get to it fellow survivors
If you don’t have biotoxin, don’t even attempt. I attempted with narcotics and got it but it costed me my sanity.
They are effected by bolas I repeat BOLAS people bolas
As of June 2025, wild versions of these can 100% be grabbed by a Karkinos.
Sometimes you just gotta abandon trying to get a specific one because the AI will trip out and you'll have 30+ stacks and it won't dive you even outside the 2x2 trap. It will either jump in the air but not attack or run around in circles until you lose aggro. I lost two hours trying to get my first one and it only dove about 4 times in that entire attempt. I've run into broken ones like this every now and again but for the most part they will act as they should. I was using the same trap for every instance so I'm assuming it might be the individual AI.
The contrails will turn red when it's about to dive. It will barrel roll 3x before it dive bombs,
Make a 2x2 with stone foundations and 2 rows high of single doorframes all around. Get your feather stacks up to 30 then stand in the middle of the trap. When Yi Ling does the dive it will now be hindered and get stuck for a second or 2 in the doorframe giving way more time to z fruit it. The stacks of feather will not consume because it cant hit you, making the dives more frequent and not waiting again from 1 stack.
Bio toxins work better then narcotics.
Karkinos can carry it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A level 145 took me 7 plant z’s and biotoxin on 2x official rates, hope this helps when gauging how many you will need.
Use a shield to ward off its feathers and when it dive bombs you hit it with a Z fruit
This better just be a regular knockout tame wildcards making all the new tames waaaaaay to complicated. I mean getting a cocktail and getting certo to drink ur drunk blood. cleaning leaches with an icthy for hours.
Getting eggs to distract the mom giga raptor so u can dance with its baby’s in a nest. blowing it up while it’s sleeping then bashing it’s head into rocks forever and still make it wait so it can eat ur stuff. Killing ur tame than fighting countless hard vultures to protect the creature than maybe tame the creature. Seriously wildcard why why why why why
There's is a faint red trail that will show up behind it as it circles just before it dives at you. Three bounces and it goes. Throw grenade at top of third bounce
To Tame bring:
- Good Flak
- Good riot/metal shield 🛡️
- Narcotics or Biotoxin
- A bunch of Plant Z flashbangs
- Food/Kibble
Process:
You need to tank it's fathered attack until your feathered count is greater than 30.
It will try to Dash you (flying dash), if it lands just tank attacks.
Once it dashes you, you need to throw a flashbang (the timing has to be perfect)
If you manage to flash it, it will stop for a while and you feed it Narcs/Biotoxin (have it on your last slot).
Repeat process until its knocked down.
Feed it.
Done.
Difficulty, I'd say it's a 3 or 4 out of 5 depending on your equipment.
It says it’s Leval 1 but it took 5 biotoxen, compared to 1 for a leval four.

Pretty easy to tame but can be annoying. To make your life easier, make a basic trap, (2x2 foundation, two walls high doorways), get armor on(regular flak will work) get them aggro'd on you and let them shoot 30 feathers at you, when you hit 30 run into the trap and you'll see red lines behind their wings. this is how you know they're going to dive bomb! they USUALLY circle you 2-3 times before dive bombing you and they'll do a spin in the air right before the do. Once theyre about to hit the ground, throw a flashbang(species z fruit) and run up to them and feed them bio toxin(you can get it from jellyfish and the mushrooms that make you hallucinate). Repeat a couple of times until they knock out, then feed them! for a level 100 it took around 5-6 species z and biotoxin, a lvl 50 took 3 so you can base it around that.
Get a stack of thirty feathers, the it will try to lunge at you, in the middle of the lunge, flash bang it with a plant species Z seed, then give it biotoxin or narcotic and it's just a standard KO tame from here (it is presumably an omnivore, but it definitely eats meat).
I have tamed dozens of these. A 145 will require up to 10 feeds on 1x while a low level can be 2-3 feeds. The biggest issue I run into is when the yi ling flies away or doesn't unlatch after reaching 30 feathers and keeps shooting you. Get out of field of view and she should return to normal. Sometimes you have to restart feather timer if she won't stop shooting from a latch position. Also if they run into trap walls and don't fly up, back out of trap and give her 50 ft of room between you two. Hope this helps
more of a general tip than specifically for yi lings, but if you're solo on a pvp server, save yourself the trouble of farming for stone structures for traps. Mid size creatures like this give you plenty of time to tame them before they do any significant damage to wood builds
