Chapter 3: Recess

The river ahead of them cut through the land until it eventually ended not too far away. Nova peered into the water and noticed schools of fish swimming by. Some were dark blueish black and had small, derpy eyes, but then a swarm of small hand-shaped red fish swam in, their sharp teeth glinting in the water. Piranhas. The dodo squawked at the sight of them, and it was then both women noticed the razor sharp teeth.
“We’re not swimming across the river. We’ll just keep moving.” Ruby declared.
“I was about to say…” Nova shuddered, “Yeah. Let’s get a move on.”
Nova and Ruby took their stroll down the ‘beach’, and as they did Ruby began picking some of the berries off the bushes nearby. Because of the peninsula they were located on, the place they were was more so a beach than a forest.
Nova’s eyes darted to Ruby’s hands, and she foraged. She scratched her chin.
“Are you preparing for a good meal?” Nova questioned her curiously.
“Yeah. How’d you know?” Ruby smiled. “It appears you can make meals with them. So they probably aren’t poisonous.”
Ruby pooled all the berries in her palms and showed them to Nova.
“These things look funky,” Nova said, picking a blue one up, “Hey this one looks like a blue cherry.”
“It does. But it’s way bigger. Look at the size of that thing,” Ruby replied, “I’ve never seen any of these berries before when I cooked. Maybe they’re exotic or something.”
“Yeah. It does appear like we’re on some sort of island. Maybe these are exclusive here.”
“I wonder what they taste like? I bet they taste really sweet.”
“I bet the dinosaurs here would taste really good,” Nova predicted as she twirled the sharp stick back and forth with her palm.
“I wonder if it’d taste more like a steak or a porkchop,” Ruby replied, “I bet the birds here taste like chicken.”,
Nova eyed the dodo bird, licking her lips with a grin. The bird squawked at her with disapproval.
“Sorry,” Nova apologized, “I’m just joking with you.”
“Yeah. There’s always other dodo birds to eat,” Ruby giggled, looking down at the bird, “You’re fine with that, right?”
It seemed completely fine with the notion of eating other dodos.
“Okay nice. Because I’m gonna be hungry soon. I have a big appetite,” Nova declared. The dodo squawked, as if agreeing.
“Yeah. He gets it!”
Nova thought the way the strange dodo bird acted was familiar, in a sense. But she couldn’t put her finger on it. Would Ruby even understand what she was talking about?
“You’re not so bad. Maybe we can be friends after all this,” Ruby suggested. Nova grinned. It wouldn’t be so bad to expand her connections.
“I don’t see why we wouldn’t. Just make free food for me every once in a while, okay?”
“I don’t mind doing that. I’ve been meaning to get into it.”
By now, the conversation was gone, and the atmosphere became a lot more quiet. Both women had come to an agreement about their food situation. For now, Nova was taking his time looking around the place at the other creatures that he just noticed also inhabited the island. Alongside the dodo birds were small lizard creatures that looked similar to dogs but had smaller and more derpy heads. Nova noticed that they dug their heads in the small bushes, and once they took them out they ate small, purple berries that looked like grapes.
“You know, the purple berries must taste pretty well if those guys are eating them,” Nova observed.
“Those are Lystrosaurus,” Ruby responded, “And yes. They must be both safe to eat and tasty.”
Nova continued looking around the area. There were giant turtles bigger than them with small heads which stumbled around slowly, their small legs sticking out like stumps. There were also large horned beasts with huge frills and three large horns, and they were also larger than them. Swimming in the water were small furry birds that were like skinny ducks. One of the skinny ducks dived into the water, grabbed a blue fish, and submerged with game in its beak. Nova looked above to see strange reptile birds with huge crests on their head and elongated beaks flying above them, their wings flapping slowly but majestically.
“It doesn’t seem dangerous, but,” Nova murmured, “Something still feels off about this place. Like… this place is artificial.”
“Same here. The gems, the extinct creatures…” Ruby warned her, “Keep your guard up.”
Nova drew her bow. “Will do.”
Ruby popped a purple berry in her mouth. She seemed pleasantly surprised by the taste. She drew her bow too afterwards.
A few more minutes passed and they had managed to make it to the ‘hill’ on the other side. Nova looked up with squinted eyes.
“This place doesn’t look too dangerous. I don’t see any dinosaurs anywhere,” Nova pointed out. Just then, a shrill scream came from up above. Nova and Ruby’s heads jerked up at the sound. The dodo bird clucked nervously.
“Someone’s up there,” Nova deduced.
“It sounds like he’s in trouble,” Ruby said, drawing an arrow, “Should we… help that guy?”
“I don’t see why not,” Nova began running up the hill, “Come on! Let’s check it out!”

They were both part of the drake tribe, until it happened that sad sad day when the nameless attacked. There were thousands to many for the turrets, and to many for the drakes, nobody could save the base or dinos. They would die. They watched as there human was turned into one of them. They were the only ones who made it out.

Darkest Day Chapter 2: Escaping Doom. The Wyverns stared at the object, wondering what it was. Firebreath threw it on the ground and continued sorting through the crates. As the artifact hit the stone floor, it spilt open, blinding light spilling from it. The light slowly dimmed, turned into the shape of a Argy that started to speak. “Hello, Lost Soul. Have those eggs hatched yet? They should have a while ago. Anyway, I need them back. Today. Not tomorrow, not five weeks from now. Lionfeather and I have to alter their way of thinking. I am coming shortly after you unload the crate that this was in. Remember that this was your last chance to do something good in this chaotic world.” The artifact snapped shut, ending the message. Murderfang was stunned. 7 years of being trapped, with no outside communication, and suddenly someone wanted them? “…But this can’t be real, Lost Soul would have told us…” She hissed. “Maybe he didn’t want us to know.” Nal growled. “Um… guys, the crate is unloaded, that thing,” Firebreath pointed at the black die. “Was at the bottom of the box.” “LOOK OUT!” The ice Wyvern roared, barreling into the other wyverns. The Argy that they had just seen flew into the cavern, landed, and looked at each Wyvern. “Voidwyrm.” She whipped her head around to stare at Sui. “Where is your Overseer?” She said the last word slowly. “He’s not here, but he will-OW!” Silver oil sprayed everywhere as the purple bird attacked the Voidwyrm, shredding the metal plating between her talons. Unnatural fire blazed around Murderfang’s claws, a strong desire to protect her friend. The black Wyvern leaped, catching hold of the enemy’s back in her jaws, and flew out the cave. The sun blinded her, and she clamped her eyes shut, but she couldn’t see where she was going and crashed into a rock tower, releasing the enemy. Murderfang snapped her eyes open, regained control of flight, and attacked the Argy. As the two aerial predators fought, Nal rushed to the wounded Voidwyrm and said, “Sui? Can you hear me? Sui?” No response. The ember Wyvern prodded her back. The silver Wyvern groaned. Nal looked at the damage inflicted and hissed, “Firebreath, could you get me a few bandages?” The red Wyvern growled softly, but still got a bandage for her. “Thanks.” She said softly. Nal wrapped the bandages around Sufi’s back, gently putting them on, then rubbing Med-brew into the wound. “Will she be ok?” Firebreath asked. “Hopefully. She will have some pain in her back for a while though, so she can’t fly.” Nal replied. …Soon. Soon this will all be over. She thought. 2 awesome votes and next one’s on Griffin! First’s on Crystal Wyvern. -Dragonslayer-

“So do you wanna swim across the river, or walk around it?” Neddy asked Samuel as they looked at the river ahead of them. It cut through the land until it eventually ended not too far away. Samuel peered into the water and noticed schools of fish swimming by. Some were dark blueish black and had small, derpy eyes, but then a swarm of small hand-shaped red fish swam in, their sharp teeth glinting in the water. Piranhas.
“Don’t you see what’s in there? We’re not swimming across the river,” Samuel replied, “Let’s just walk around. We have all the time in the world.”
Samuel and Neddy took their stroll down the ‘beach’, and as they did Neddy brushed his hand across the many unique flora of the grass slightly inland. Because of the peninsula they were located on, the place they were was moreso a beach than a forest.
Samuel’s eyes darted to Neddy’s hands, and he noticed that he was picking up the berries and fruits of the bushes, along with small fibers that made up the plant.
“What are you doing?” Samuel questioned him curiously.
“Just gathering some berries,” Neddy said, “I noticed them on the way here. You never know when you might need a good snack.”
Neddy stopped his foraging for a moment to look at the berries he had picked up.
“These are some weird berries,” Samuel said, picking a blue one up, “Hey this one looks like a blue raspberry.”
“It looks like a blue raspberry but it’s not,” Neddy replied, “In fact none of these berries are recognizable. I think they’re completely new.”
“Well if they aren’t something that isn’t known to man, we shouldn’t eat them, right?”
“I guess so. We don’t know if they could be dangerous to eat or not, it’s too risky to know for sure. For now let’s just have them as an emergency food supply. Only in a dire situation where we’re absolutely starving.”
“But then what else would we eat?” Samuel wondered as he tossed the rock he had plucked up and down.
“I’m not sure, maybe we could hunt the animals here,” Neddy answered, eyeing the dodo bird hungrily. The bird squawked at him with disapproval.
“We’re not eating the bird,” Samuel sneered.
“We have to do it for the greater good!” Neddy shouted.
“He’s my friend, man, you wouldn’t get it!” Samuel screamed. The dodo squawked at him angrily.
“Sorry, she is.”
Samuel was unsure if he should tell Neddy about this bird’s dog-like behavior, and how the dodo made him feel safe and welcomed, but now didn’t seem to be the time.
“You’re a crazy bastard,” Neddy scoffed.
“You’re the one runnin’ around with nothing but your underwear.”
“The gown was gettin’ itchy!”
“Okay okay, how about this,” Samuel reasoned, “We can eat anything but my bird, okay?”
“Fine. Anything but your bird.”
The argument was gone, the tensions had died down. Both boys had come to an agreement about their food predicament. For now, Samuel was taking his time looking around the place at the other creatures that he just noticed also inhabited the island. Alongside the dodo birds were small lizard creature things that looked similar to dogs but had smaller and more derpy heads. Samuel noticed that they dug their heads in the small bushes, and once they took them out they ate small, purple berries that looked like grapes.
“Those weird things are eating the purple berries,” Samuel observed.
“They’re called Lystrosaurus,” Neddy responded, “And if they’re eating the purple berries then that means they must be safe to eat.”
Samuel continued looking around the area. Samuel looked above to see strange reptile birds with huge crests on their head and elongated beaks flying above them, their wings flapping slowly but majestically.
“This island doesn’t seem so dangerous the more we explore,” Samuel said.
“It’s a trap. That’s how all places or people are. You think they’re not a threat but they could have the capability to kill you many times over. Don’t underestimate any animal that you don’t know,” Neddy warned him.
“I guess you’re right. They’re pretty big and scary looking,” Samuel stated.
“You shouldn’t have to worry about any of them as long as you keep your distance from them,” Neddy reassured him as he placed a purple berry in his mouth.
A few more minutes passed and they had managed to make it to the ‘hill’ on the other side. Neddy looked up with squinted eyes.
“This place doesn’t look that bad. Maybe we could set up shelter here or use it as a vantage point to see the next place to travel to,” Neddy said. Just then Neddy’s implant began to hum. He looked at the implant curiously, and the dodo squealed in delight.
“The gem thingie, it’s glowing…” Samuel realized.
“It is. You know what that means,” Neddy said looking up at the hill, “There’s someone up there.”
