Raptors are the best beginner's carnivore. They are fast, agile, and can do moderate amounts of damage very quickly, especially in a pack. They can also punce on smaller prey, pinning them down while you finish them off. Similar to the Direwolf, the alpha of a pack will sound a call to the others, causing a buff to all the packmates. Unlike the Direwolf, however, the buff increases attack speed instead of power. This increased attack speed can actually allow you to deal more damage than the Direwolf. Although the name of this creature is just "raptor," it is clearly a Utahraptor, the largest raptor to ever live, growing to the size of an ice cream truck and weighing 1,000 pounds. This was a beast in real life, but not quite in ARK, as they get killed by seemingly everything. Overall, a worthy starter tame, but useless late game. Unless you want to breed them and give them pretty colors.

This is possibly the only dino that's still will be effective from the beginning to the end stage, these things have a pack buff that really isn't gonna do anything to bosses,, but historical we always learn outnumbering an enemy is a guaranteed win, get two raptors and breed them together till you have a gang of them, put points mostly in health stamina and melee damage and with the pack buff these freaking machines will start attacking nonstop even if one deals 40 damage their fast strikes kill even brontosauruses
Do not use this for caves, you will die. I tried to run lower south today and I died and so did my raptor. I have done lower souths billions of times, never had I actually remotely struggled, I would even do it on foot. The new araneo tlc makes it impossible to use a raptor in caves do to the damage it will take. Everything was high level or max level and the raptor which did 600 damage with 6k health couldn’t survive. Just take a barry or a thyla but not a raptor.
Raptors are essentially better Dilos. Whe lacking the poisonous blinding spit of a Dilo, they have a much better DPS due to their speed. In groups of three or more they benefit from a pack boost, and in groups of at least four I notice they tend to take on bigger threats on the Ark (notably Sarcos and Kapros). Plus their pounce ability is not to be overlooked.
In short, tame Dilos for the early game, but Raptors as you move into mid game.
