Quick tip, although it is rare, the ovis can actually spawn on the beach bordering the red woods. Tamed my first today and found it on the beach bellow the volcano on the island. Best of luck.

Ovis can be found near Lat 29 Lon 32 or Lat 15 Lon 50 on the ice mountain. Your best bet at finding one is to wait for the server reset around 11-12 eastern time and search the coordinates provided. Up vote if this helped you find one.

The babies from breeding drop raw mutton AND raw prime meat. Use a moschops for max farming, but not required. Higher level (health), more meat.

If you are lucky enough to breed these, be ready to babysit. Try and have berries stocked that are easily accessible. Otherwise you'll need at least 2 people on. I also had the problem of the baby falling through not only the foundation, but the ground itself. Once it's almost ready to birth, place a pillar down. Place a ceiling on that, then a ramp to get the ovis up there. Take the ramp down and just let the baby drop. These things are tiny, so be ready for them.

I have tamed 3 around northern snowy mountains slopes. You also have to make sure it is not being attacked by a wildlife or else you gonna see your mutton... I mean wool go to waste.

Tame and keep until you find a high level carnivore you want to take because the mutton from the Ovid is better than kibble.

Scorched earth: When you successfully tame this creature in the wild, your likely to have found it near mantis or other dangerous animals. Before taming, make sure to bring at least a low lvl Rex. However. This one time I had a terror bird and a Rex with me, and a mantis came at me right when I finally finished taming the sheep, and it instantly died.

Once killed the Ovis drops a lot of pelt and the mutton tamed faster than kibble.

The whole "they live in the plains" is total bs. There is a spawn at the top left of the island on a snowy cliff where they spawn. I think they spawn about every 4 or 5 hours real time.
