Taming & KO Tips

How do I tame a mantis? Tips and strategies on taming and knocking out a mantis.
For babies:spoiled meat gives 50food,raw gives 10
You need to get one
1 get bug repellent, kill deathworms, get chillies armour and maybe a canteen or two
2 eat the bug repellent and put the deathworm horns in your last slot, find a high level and sneak up from behind. once you feed it run away and repeat
3 make sure to give him a sword or a tool for whatever you might harvest
WARNING: make sure that if you do this with a tame that you feed it bug repellent too otherwise the mantis will aggro and you can’t tame it. you can only tame a mantis when your over level 40 and the saddle unlocks at lvl 50
Trap it in a 1 by 2 trap, one wall high. It's legs or butt will stick out somewhere, go to it and get the angle where you can feed it the horns! No Ghille required
HELPFUL TIP! Make sure you have more horns than needed as Dododex was wrong on the amount, ruined my 150 tame
the time is between
1.20min and 1.45min withe rino horns
Instead of feeding it when you have the bug repellent, Gilly suit and cactus soup all in your bloodstream… why not take a couple of billboards and trap the mantis..
I was able to do it using just two billboards.. the mantis body is very long.. so I use one billboard to block it from moving forward and the other one was put down right on top of its middle section…. It was trapped….
I left the area and it glitched out of the trap…
I was able to do it again though. So billboards are really convenient for the mantis provided that you have the Gilly suit and the bug repellent and the cactus soup in play.
You can pick a mantis up and drop it in a 1x1 box. After that, you can feed them through the wall to tame, no bug spray needed.
Trapping them with a wyvern wings could make it despawn
Try with net and gillie armor ok
Make sure to stick the horn really far up
Parking a wyvern on it will make it disappear. Had it happen twice
Can lure into water and tame like an arthlo
They used to only eat Deathworm horns but there was an update, now they can eat wooly rhino horns as well.
You can find deathworm statues around the volcano on fjordur Midgard which when harvested give deathworm horns
Take a mated shadowmane pair and use the female aoe invisibility, enjoy the easy Taming :). (you can basically jump on the thing and it won't notice you)
Simply get bug repellent, ghillie, 3 metal bill boards and [insert taming food here]. Pop the big repellent and wear the ghillie go up to it and trap with bill boards. The you only need to crouch by its bum and shove horns up it when it asks you to.
So these are a passive tame, get some bug repellent ( make it ok a mortar or a chem bench and you’ll need; narc, lemons, carrots and pelt)
You will also need Deathworm horns for the actual taming, put them in the last slot on the quick access bar.
Find the Mantis that you want, use the bug repellent (you’ll get about 400 seconds) and no insects will agro by you being near them. Approach the mantis from behind and feed them to it.
It may takes more than one feed? If that’s the case be aware that the mantis will agro for a bit.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, Use Bug Repellant, Cactus Broth and Ghillie Armour for easy taming. The Mantis’ aggro range is crazy massive but if you have these buffs they will not see you coming, if you can, feed your mount cactus broth and bug repellant if you’re really paranoid. Happy Taming Survivors!
Procoptodon will hold mantis up to 28% maturation
Tip #1 - Don't tame a dung beetle in between feeding intervals. The mantis will attack it and reset tame.
Tip #2 - clear all vultures in the area, mantis will fight them and reset tame.
Tip #3 - Don't waste time taming a mating pair, as they are unable to mate :))))...
Tip #4 - Bring extra horns -_- and bug repellent.
