What are tips for mantis? Tips and strategies for mantis in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
Can you tame these with wooly rhino horns? If not I guess I could make that trip to Ragnorok. Would be annoying tho
Cant tame in valguero cuz there is no deathworms
The bad bois can take on a trike that’s nearly the same level avoid if you can
Drag it out of a cave or tame in the cave they will not move while taming if you are not detected
Build 1 Foundation, (Adobe,Stone, or Metal) four walls on the first level, three on the second leaving one open, attach a ramp to the open section, if you can successfully drop the mantis in, it will remain still for the duration, and no repellant or broth required.
How does one collect berries with the Mantis? According to Dododex it has a 3.2 gathering effiency for berries.

Valguero Taming Guide: Mantises spawn at the bottom of the Wyvern Scar. To tame them, first you will need to go to Scorched Earth and wall around the North, West, and South deserts at the perimeter of the map. Each circuit around the map should give you 5-10 horns. Horns can be collected from Iceworms in Ragnarok as well.
Once you have your horns, equip a full ghillie suit and bug repellant. Approach the scar from the East, and you should see two cliff platforms in the snow at the entrance to the Scar. There will almost always be several Mantises on the ramp descending into the scar along with dung beetles, titanaboas, and arthros.
Clear the trash, agro a mantis, and run back up the ramp and onto the snow platforms. Mantis should lose agro on the platforms, and you can then start taming peacefully. Approach from behind with your ghillie suit and bug repllant, passive tame with the horns and feed every 3 minutes. Voila, easy Mantis. I tamed 4 in less than 2 hours like this.
To tame a mantis one can follow all sorts of advice. Or one can approach them as one would a shadowmane. Build a 2x2 box with 2 walls high of stone and a single doorframe in there somewhere and 2 ramps (one wide is enough) and lead your prey inside. Replace the single doorframe with another wall. Get out of render distance to unaggro. Remove ramp to keep your specimen safer from predators. Feed it through the wall, you can even approach it's head. (I am tired of wasting the horns I chased down so there)
Note that getting them into a cage is significantly easier if you can choose a terrain, however this baby requires not merely an argy but a wyvern to carry. To get a wyvern, on Fjordur, get a Desmodus, wait til nighttime, sneak into nest and use realm teleportation. Nab egg as the black screen hits. Bring a fjordhawk just in case.
Don't use taming pen for these creatures! They really hate being near anything and will ignore your horns even if you have ghillie and bug repellant if they're in a pen! Just do the sneak behind its back technique. Up this so people can know!
I saw that it takes a death worm horn to tame it so far has taken only ONE and then you xan feed it raw meat. So the fear of " omg I am gonna have to kill death worms all the time" has been proven wrong 4 tames and all eat meat! * gillie suit,b7g spray,crouch and come feom behind the mantis voila!!! Bad ass friend to ride and tame Dragons YES DRAGONS!!They are able to hold a club and knock out for you!!
