Taming & KO Tips

How do I tame a ichthyosaurus? Tips and strategies on taming and knocking out a ichthyosaurus.
Look out for jellyfish. A group snuck up behind me while taming a 105 ichthyosaurus...
Hearing they don’t have any predators they could help with other aquatic passive tames like the manta! Some tames are great for getting other tames, I’ll post a story about my fish’s death in stories!
Eighthop signing off
They a really good tame if you level up the speed you can do zoomies in the water when without leveling up the speed you just do slower zoomies
I tamed this while on a pelagornis. Kill some fish, and put it on your hot bar. Land in the ocean on the pela. A ichthy or two might swim up to you. Feed fish meat when hungry. You got a ichthy! Also, you have to swim for them to follow. These are the pigeons of the sea (as well as tropical birds!) they will come and keep coming. It started with 1, then 2, then 4. Also pelas can only land on surface.
So i one day i found a level 150 Ichty and i was excited i was looking forward to taming one so i used my soothing balm and started to feed it and i wanted to get the Ichty near the beach which was a pretty bad idea, the Ichty decided to go on land and it died. I couldnt revive him i was only level 47,i didnt have enough amber and the obelisks wouldnt help, the thing i most regret is that i wasted a soothing balm, and now i need to abuse aka farm the south cave
Bro everyone says these guys are easy to tame yes they are but it’s so so hard to get to them without being attacked
Easy enough to tame that you don't need to trap it.
They're attracted to players and especially tames, so using anything from a turtle to a mosa makes taming them easy. They may swim off, but are easy to magnet back onto your tame.
Technically you can get a bunch of these to come to the surface easily with a pelagornis, and fly away if a megalodon attacks, if you get enough it might even become harder for megalodons to hit you lol
I tames Three of these and I like them put a Saddle and like it
Can be tamed by having fish in the last category
Then feed it sone
I had a mega and these guys kept swarming around me, not attacking. I guess a mega attracts these guys as friends. Either way if you want to take a lot of these guys just swim with a mega for a bit and like 5 will be following you. They continue to follow after feeding too so they just sit there as you tame them instead of running off
What ever you do when taming don’t try to knock these guys out after I first started ark I thought they were knock out tames so every time I tried I would kill them so remember there passive tames
Once you have a raft, get some meat and head on over to Herbivore Island. (Bottom right corner of the map on The Island) These guys are EVERYWHERE there. If you’re lucky, you can find one in the bay where it’s super safe, but a lot spawn by the island’s coasts as well. Herbivore Island is good in my opinion because you don’t have to worry about the threats on land, and the water is relatively safe as well. These guys are super important, as they basically open the door to underwater exploration and taming.
Build a small trap with dino gate partially above water. Land on water with Pelagornis and once they come to play, lead them with Pelagornis through gate, hop off, close gate. Build the trap close to their spawn or they will lose interest before you get them in.
Tame, cuz passive tame
Swim around, tame megalodon
Thats about its only use
Tamed a 130 on rag by rocks in middle of map in the north. By far the best place, saw 2 140s and a 105. Took no time to tame, and surrounded it with walls to trap it.
If you have a basilosaurus, ichys will follow it which makes the tame 2000% easier
A little tip : the savage Ichtyosaure follow the tame Ichty
Ex: 4 Ichty follow my tame Ichty (he don't have saddle)
To those who think it's faster with raw meat
Yes raw meet gives higher taming percentage but takes longer for next feeding making Ng it overall slower
At least in mobile
Ichthyosaurus are one of the weakest water tames, but their speed makes them a great utility tame. This guide will help you acquire one yourself.
1. Locate an accessible ichthy of the desired level, if you have no water tames, go for one near shore, preferably in a mostly cut off from the ocean body of water like a bay. Taming a very low level can allow you to increase your range of accessibility because you can swim far into the ocean so it can be a good idea when going for a high level.
2. Gather food, raw meat is good enough if you cannot get better food, however I would recommend prime, or mutton because they are relatively easy to get and they will give much more taming progress and lose very little effectiveness. Kibble can also be used if you have access to it, for a perfect tame.
3. The ichthy is a passive tame, so you will need to swim up to it to start taming it. As with every passive tame, the interval between feeding it a second time is very long, so you can either wait with it, or you can do something short, it seems to be around 10 to 20 minutes. After the second feed they will be low on hunger, and so you can feed them around every 15 seconds until they are tamed or full on hunger (which has never happened to me because of how much their hunger goes down when waiting for the second feed)
4. Ichthys will naturally swim towards and follow you when you get near, which makes taming them much easier. After staying with you, eventually they will swim away, however in my experience you delay this by periodically moving and having them follow you, instead of staying still. When they do start swimming away, exit the water instead of chasing them. This will make them stop avoiding you, and will make it so if you get close to them again, they will begin following you again.
Happy taming!
