Tips & Strategies

What are tips for ichthyosaurus? Tips and strategies for ichthyosaurus in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
A little tip : the savage Ichtyosaure follow the tame Ichty
Ex: 4 Ichty follow my tame Ichty (he don't have saddle)
To those who think it's faster with raw meat
Yes raw meet gives higher taming percentage but takes longer for next feeding making Ng it overall slower
At least in mobile
Ichthyosaurus are one of the weakest water tames, but their speed makes them a great utility tame. This guide will help you acquire one yourself.
1. Locate an accessible ichthy of the desired level, if you have no water tames, go for one near shore, preferably in a mostly cut off from the ocean body of water like a bay. Taming a very low level can allow you to increase your range of accessibility because you can swim far into the ocean so it can be a good idea when going for a high level.
2. Gather food, raw meat is good enough if you cannot get better food, however I would recommend prime, or mutton because they are relatively easy to get and they will give much more taming progress and lose very little effectiveness. Kibble can also be used if you have access to it, for a perfect tame.
3. The ichthy is a passive tame, so you will need to swim up to it to start taming it. As with every passive tame, the interval between feeding it a second time is very long, so you can either wait with it, or you can do something short, it seems to be around 10 to 20 minutes. After the second feed they will be low on hunger, and so you can feed them around every 15 seconds until they are tamed or full on hunger (which has never happened to me because of how much their hunger goes down when waiting for the second feed)
4. Ichthys will naturally swim towards and follow you when you get near, which makes taming them much easier. After staying with you, eventually they will swim away, however in my experience you delay this by periodically moving and having them follow you, instead of staying still. When they do start swimming away, exit the water instead of chasing them. This will make them stop avoiding you, and will make it so if you get close to them again, they will begin following you again.
Happy taming!
How to tame!
Supply’s needed-
Raw fish meat (probably best option)
And an ichthyosaurus saddle, but this is optional!
How to!
1. Go to the ocean- and in the shallows- or in the deeps (I definatly recommend the shallows as I don’t like deep water, and it is harder to come up for air in the deep. There are also megalodons in the deep, and they will wreck all of your plans.)
2. Hold your raw fish meat, then go near an ichthy. It should look at you and follow you.
3. Feed it some meat!
Tip! ( they usually swim away from you after you feed them, so if you like- or can, it is good to have a mount that can swim underwater to help you catch up with them when they need more meat. I understand that not all people have an underwater tame, and that is perfectly fine! You don’t need one, but it does help!)
4. You now have an ichthyosaurus! Equipped a saddle (if you have one)
Congratulations, you now have an ichthy!
why are these things so hard to tame?? i swear every time i feed one it swims 200m below the surface where i cant follow
As always, Wildcard messed everything. On ASA, they will swim away when first fed. So it will be impossible to tame without a trap, save your time people!
With the release of ASA these things become a lot harder to tame. The movement speed nerf really impacted this early game tame. Since you can’t even match the speed of these with flippers, catching up to it is impossible on foot. SAVE YOURSELF AN HOUR OF SWIMMING AFTER THESE AND BUILD A TRAP!!
For an early game tame; wild card made these very hard to get in ASA.
A basi is way easier to tame then these. That’s saying something. WC really messed this one up, big thumbs down 👎🏻👎🏻
they are not weak if u have good level and acendent saddle with those they can kill prontos and many megalodons
How to tame:
1. Prep with raw fish meat, raw meat, or dodo kibble at best (simple kibble on pc)
2. Locate one
3. Put the meat/kibble in your hotbar and give it to the ichthy
4. Follow it and feed it when its hungry until tamed
Hope this helps!
It's hard to tame these guys they like to hang out with very dangerous creatures and they wander a lot so use it's preferred kibble to tame it. So bring a turtle or a sarco or both to tame it,
If you tame one of these and live on the beach you will never need oil again because these things can outswim almost everything in the ocean and all you have to do is swim to the bottom and quickly mine some oil and then come up again so i recommend leveling up their weight they will be able to carry more oil so I recommend doing this
I know this is under taming I been trying to to tame this but there is sharks every time so annoying
On mobile , first do the kibble quest and make dodo kibbles, best food for taming icthy...
Ichty has been nerfed!!!
All wild or aggressive d dinos will aggro on you even if you ride an ichty 🙃🙂
