These guys don’t need a saddle for you to ride them! Basically the only reason why you should get the saddle is cuz the saddle has a mortar and pestle in it. So for you low-levels, try to tame one of these as soon as you can. All you need is a few rockcarrots or berries(might take a while using berries) and you have an incredibly useful tame that runs fast and is able to carry a decent weight (somewhere around 350-450 kg).

These things are SUPER easy to tame and here’s how.

1. Get 10 rock carrots and put them in the last slot of your hotbar

2. Crouch and approach slowly only move closer while it’s looking away.

3. When next to it DONT MOVE and feed it the rock carrot

(May take several carrots on a higher level but normally only 1-2)

Also it will run away after you feed it if it takes more than one carrot. But don’t immediately chase it try to wait and see where it goes. Then repeat instructions 1-3. They are mostly found ( in my experience ) Where Carnivores are ( Raptors, Carnos, terror birds etc. ) So you really have to make sure the area is safe enough so you can hop on the equus and feed it. I hope this helps!

So I heard you want to tame an Equus..

The creatures I recommend using to help you-

Argy for dropping it in pen

Iguanodon for seeding the rockarrots so you can have rockarrot crops( trust me it’s so much easier that going around to jungle ferns and searching)

You will need ALOT of rockarrots. The pursuit says only five but I recommend getting 50-100 depending on the level of the Equus. Getting extra is also very important because some will spoil on your long long search for the horse.

These horses live past the redwoods river near the mountains( if you are in Ark Mobile) and usually will be found running away from something or being hunted by something( usually raptors and Carnos, possibly allos)

If the horse says “feed Azulberries to tame” don’t be disappointed for you can still use those hard- earned rockarrots, (which I reccomend using because the Azulberries only give you 0.1% taming progress which I learned the hard way) .

I love these, great for gathering plant resources. Can take a while to tame tho (also if it gets attacked while taming and you get off it will reset taming progress in ASA)

Well the Equus is a hard tame,even a t-rex is easier but you will need around 30-60 carrots so to get that you will have to plant some get a medium plant crop and in order to the seeds go to the nearest forest and keep gathering plants until you get the seeds plant the seeds with fertilizer inside the plant crops.

Make sure you get these damn horses into a safe, enclosed before trying to tame them. Use an argentavis to drop them in a pen or something, because if you try to tame them in the wild they will just make a beeline for the nearest Allo or simply jump off a cliff.

How I tamed on mobile:

So you kinda need an argey to do this so if you don’t have an argey then you better get one cause they’re super helpful (but the saddle unlocks at lvl 62), anyway, you’ll need to make a pen with at least a 2x2 square floor and 2x2 square walls all around (one wall should be a simple door & doorframe) once built it should look like a box without a top (do NOT make the walls out of fence, THEY WILL HOP FENCES!)

Now you either make a good bit of dilo kibble or get a lot of carrots then you hop on your argey and go lookin for your horsey. (I like plain white ones similar to the pic on Dododex cause you can dye them fun colors) Once you find a good horsey just pick it up with your argey and head back to the pen you made and plop it in there (remember that your argey’s stamina will deplet faster cause it’s carrying something)

Now you can just go in the pen with your horsey and tame it! (To tame on mobile you ride it and feed it then get off and repeat) now all you gotta do is name and color (optional) your new horsey friend!

A lot of these tips are incomplete so I’d like to offer the more complete help that I could not find here:

When taming an equus, have your carrots ready in your last hotbar slot. Sneak up behind, stand still and feed the equus, immediately hop on!!

Keep an eye on the bottom right hand corner of your screen and feed the equus when prompted in your effect statuses(on pc it’s E to feed). You HAVE to stay on the equus, because everytime you hop off you’ll lose gaming effectiveness. So pay attention to not tap E until the feeding prompt comes up or you’ll hop off and mess up the tame. Just keep feeding while riding until it tames, and viola you have a perfect 100% Equus tame!! (Spamming is your enemy, this tame takes a little concentration. Happy riding friends!) I recommend using a pen so you don’t have to chase the horse across the plains.

If you find one of these guys and happen to have a roccarrot you crouch and slowly approach them these guys will run like usain bolt

Get a good supply of rock carrots doesn't take many but mistakes will be made..can be carried by a Wyvern even if you need to land for stamina every 3 seconds

Equus is one of the best early game tames in my opinion once you have it use it to knock out other dinos with its kick it will save you tranq arrows if you haven't unlocked it and you can still get other dinos to join your team they are decent harvesters wood, thatch, and barries and there fast runners if you need to get somewhere or you need to get away from danger quick also they take barries and carrots as a taming food but it in the last slot they are passive tames. On Xbox walk up and push Y and you'll have to ride it out till it is yours give a like if this helps

In order to tame an equus you will have to sneak up behind it and feed it Rockarrot and ride on it and again feed it rockarrot it will start moving but won't run to far when it trys to kick you off feed it another rockarrot and repeat it and boom you have tamed an equus do the pursuit tame equus to find it keep flying or walking and an arrow will appear showing its location and after you tame it with pursuit you will get its saddle the saddle will work as a mortar and pestle.

Does anyone else have an eqqus that occasionally tames creatures when kicking. I have kick tamed 2 pegos, a carno and a terror bird without putting food in its inventory

It took me two hours to tame on mobile, if your going to ride it make sure you don’t get distracted...I learned that the hard way

Kill off all predators in the area, then sneak up to the Equus and mount it. Feed it rockcarrots until it is tame.

On rare occasion they will spawn on herbivore island

If you are struggling to keep them from dying/running off then pick them up with an argy and put them in a pen.
