Since these spawn in the redwoods. I recommend that you check there if you want to tame one and if the redwoods are to harsh and dangerous, then take your argy and pick it up to a safe taming spot. That’s what I did

⭐ yes, tranq him in the face and if they chase you, back peddle and keep aiming for the face, if they turn and flee, try to run along side it and aim for the underbelly... if it curls into a ball, crouch in a bush or something and wait for it to uncurl... definitely a necessary mid game creature to capture for building with stone...

He is so annoying to knock out!

You can't bola them. Don't shoot tranq in the shell cause it's a huge waste

A handy tip to see if you need arrows or darts is to find out how much total health your doedicurus has and then choose your weapon to knock it out. Then using Dododex, see how many shots it takes to knock it out and then click on the weapon to see how much damage it does. Multiple those 2 numbers and if your answer is the relatively close to the health stat, choose a longneck instead. Example: I have a level 120 I want to tame. I have a crossbow that takes 40 shots to knock it out and does 150 damage per shot 40x150=6,000 so I switch to darts. If I had a level 100 and wanted to tame it with a crossbow that did 90 damage and took 50 shots to knock out 90x50=4,500 which (let’s pretend mine had 7k health) is less than 7,000 so I can knock it out with a crossbow. Remember that the examples at the end are NOT accurate just the idea. Happy taming!

A trap really isn’t needed, as it runs very slowly. Would recommend using an argentavis (if available) to pick it up and take it to a safer spot. Tranq darts and tranq arrows work just fine.

An easy way to tame is to use a net gun. It will prevent the Doedicurus from balling up and removes the need for a pen of any kind.

Tranq darts are ideal, though tranq arrows work fine as well as long as the creature is at full health. It's relatively slow, so you can score some easy shots on foot, though it's adviseable that you aim for the head and nowhere else. They'll take less torpor when shot anywhere else.

Also, bring a good amount of narcotics or biotoxins to keep their torpor up until it's all tamed up.

Shoot for the head or tail with trans arrows and crossbow combo. When it rolls into a ball leave the area and keep an eye on them with a spy glass. Wait for it to start moving before approaching and shooting again. For high level ones, use a magnifying glass to check the torpor lvl while it's in ball form. Takes several rounds to get them knocked out. Don't waste your time trying to apply torpor while it's in a ball. Good luck.

Use tranq arrows if u don’t have darts then just whack with a wooden club when it’s curled up in a ball

I was flying my pteranodon, and i saw a lvl 27 rex pick on one of these lil cuties. He curled up into a ball, and took no damage, so combined with its mining capabilities, this lil guy is perfect for the mountains, as they have incredible defense, and mining capabilities.

Tranq arrows and I used Bio Toxin, I still suggest keep on you about 50, and I used crops, the one I tamed preferred corn over potatoes, carrots and etc

Instead of shooting in the face with tranq arrows, go for the tail. Will take practice or if you managed to lure into a trap of yours it will swing its tail. If on foot just walk backwards and close enough to trigger a swing at you to get shots to the tail. In a trap just time it when it swings. Avoids it from taking too much damage from heatshots and balling up.

tranq arrow with a crossbow or a tranq bullet with a gun but be careful cuz they can curl up in a ball and shield your attacks so make sure to do it fast.

If your going to tame this guy then you would like something to move to a passive area as if it is in the redwoods, it is very scary when a Rex just spawns right next to you and kills you and the doedicurus!!!!

Very easy to KO, just walk backwards while firing at its head with a tranq weapon. Don’t shoot when they ball up or else you will waste ammo (even if you hit its head while its balled up it won’t give torpor)

If you are a solo you need trank darts

If you have a friend and a argy one of you picks it up while the other shots it in the stomach
