They can tame fast with rhino horns. Up so Dododex can change the info please and thank you
Do not be me and knock out a 150 after searching 3 hours coming to realize it's a passive tame.
These should have something else to tame them with besides horns. Like a kibble, spoiled meat, etc. don’t you agree?
How to Tame a Mantis:
1. Absolutely obliterate some Deathworms because you’re a gigachad and don’t feel fear..or you can kill some Woolly Rhinos, that works too.
2. Prepare, get a full suit of ghillie armor and maybe some bug repellent just to be sure. Get your deathworm horns and make it to the desert or wherever you’re taming it
3. Find a nice Mantis, probably 145-150, sneak up on it and shove the horns right up it’s ass
4. Name your Mantis, they can hold a variety of tools, pickaxes, hatchets, swords and pikes, they also have a jump attack that’ll drain stamina but does quite a lot of damage

Please don’t listen to the boy who said with bug repellant, ghille and cactus broth that the aggro range is “literally zero” cause it’s not.. you can get super duper close without aggravating it but you can’t get too close so still be careful and try not to stand so close you can touch it or it will STILL AGGRO.
Kill every vulture in area if can. They will aggro on mantis and make tameing bar restart.
On Fjordur, you can find rocks in the volcano area that resemble fossilized Death Worms, which can be harvested for Death Worm Horns, making taming them much easier there, if you have the rest of the necessary equipment
Mantis can now be tamed with Wooly Rhino Horns
The most versatile of Scorched Earths creatures. A Mantis can hold the roles of multiple different creatures depending on the tools or weapons it has equipped. Picks and Hatchets make them ultimate harvesters, Pikes and Swords can turn them into deadly combat mounts and Clubs can allow them to quickly down creatures for taming, they have no need for Sickles since they can harvest fiber by default. However you'll need to level it's stats depending on the role you plan to assign it to. For example, if you want too make a Mantis a harvester weight and Melee are what you'll want to go for, if you want it to be a expert at combat health and Melee with some stamina in case things go wrong and you have to flee are the way to go since there pounce attack is enough to quickly cover ground and escape a aggressor, and KO'ers really need nothing more then health in case the target is something strong that fights back and some Melee to increase the amount of torpor inflicted by the clubs
While it is cheesy and very hard to pull off on most maps, if you can lure a mantis into swimming deep water, then they either chase after you and then lose agro and dive underwater or they lose interest immediately and return to shore. After they run back to land/dive, you can get a free feed while they swim back with next to no chance at an agro, plus their food drains a little quicker because of the swimming.
P.S this was already said by other people but my comment spreads the taming method easier (I'm blatantly stealing)
Use bug repellent and cactus broth when taming, this makes agro range literally 0.
1. Build a 1x1 box, 2 walls high with a ramp or stairs on one side.
2. Get the snippy psycho to follow you into the box.
3. Once it's in there, run out of aggro range and come back.
4. Start taming with rhino or deathworm horns through the wall.
No ghillie or bug spray needed!
Just take a death worm horn and shove it up it’s ass
