BEASTS OF URTHAA
There are many beasts on Urthaa. Listed here are only a fraction of them.
Ter’vaan; (Translated; Sacred Claw) Large, quadrupedal creatures, with a thin layer of black or brown feathers over their scales. Descendants of Inostrancevia, they have serrated fangs, ridged claws, and barbed tail-blades that are able to retract into keratin ‘sheaths’. Roughly 12 feet long, 6.6 feet tall.
Boggr’u; (Translated; Soaring Death) Massive wyverns with rust-colored scales and maws, full of serrated fangs, that drip green fire-venom. Under their throats are sacs that pulse with the aforementioned fire-venom. They have a thin layer of brown or black feathers, though the Ero’tul breed has thicker whitish feathers. 30 feet long, 5.9 feet tall.
Boggu’ari; (Translated; Earth-scorcher) The flightless cousins of the Boggr’u, they use their heavy wings as clawed hammers while in combat, and as front legs when walking. Ridden by Ere’kaa and Tyrvun berserkers, belching crimson fire-venom that clings as it scorches. Capable of gliding for short distances, but not powered flight. 7 feet tall, 22 feet long.
Ter’fyn Wolves; (Translated; Shadow Wolves) Large wolves that stalk the northern plateaus and mountains, their pelts gray, black, and white, to blend into the snow and rocks. 5 feet tall, 9 feet long.
Rakrii Deer; (Translated; Forest-wraith Deer) Ter’fyn Wolves’ preferred prey. Their pelts are dappled brown and black, to mimic tree bark. Fully grown bucks are capable of trampling and goring predators with their antlers. 7 feet tall, 9 feet long.
Okrii goats; (Translated; Vampire Goats) Horrifyingly carnivorous mountain goats that blend into the darkened snow of night and tear out the throats of prey. 4 feet tall, 5 feet long.
Tol’bbeg; (Translated; Blaze Demon) Black- or red-scaled, flightless, plateau-stalking relatives of the Boggr’u that spit bluish fire-venom. Their arms are long, heavily muscled with short, powerful claws that are used for knuckle-walking, burrowing, and attacking. The Tol’bbeg are ridden by a Sahr terrorist group known as the Snar-Kekk. ‘God-Eaters’. 8 feet tall, 40 feet long. They are believed to be the embodiments of the Uio’taii-Kaa.
Wre’nneg‘us: (Translated: Village-feed Beast) Pig-like creatures, with short, curled tusks and thick brown hides. Used as livestock by the Ere’kaa, Tyrvun, who breed them for thinner fur and thicker hide, and Ero’tul, who breed them to have thicker fur for survival in the harsh cold. Their hides are often used for cloaks by non-warriors.
Tyrui; (Translated; War Tiger) Descendants of the Thylacoleo, brawnier and better at climbing, with thumb claws designed for grappling and slashing. Tyrui have reddish or brown pelts. They are ridden solely by the Violl. Native to the Smukr Forests of the West. 5 feet tall, 8 feet long.
Mur’don; (Translated; Brutal Huntsman) Descendants of Qianzhousaurus, with longer arms, six spikes on their snouts, and osteoderms lining their backs and limbs. Mur’don are capable of walking on all fours or its hind limbs. (Facultative bipeds) Most often have gray or greenish scales, though some have blood-red scales, and are thus considered sacred. They hunt in packs of up to six, and are ridden only by Ere’kaa shock-troops. They feed on human corpses, Tyrui, Okrii goats, Rakrii deers, and Ter’fyn wolves. Their packs, called Mar’toa (Translated; Nightmares), are led by a Ter-Vuuli, the largest male, which translates to ‘Blood Lord’. 6.7 feet tall, 36 feet long. The Ere’kaa believe them to be the Sons of Tirra, sent to sow chaos and punish unworthy warriors.
Axiir; (Translated; Great Tusk) Descendants of mammoths that became carnivorous due to scarce resources. Their tusks are serrated, to cut through flesh, and their trunks are tipped with 4 bone claws. 20 feet tall, 30 feet long. Believed to be Ice-gods given flesh.
Tur’naak; (Translated; Horrific Maw) Massive, spider-like monstrosities with six legs and two scorpion-like claws, barbed raptorial jaws, and opaque, blackish, or orangish shells. Only seen in deep caves and the Salt Barrens of the Southwest. 5 feet tall, 10 feet long. Considered demons sent by Ferunner; “Life is a mistake. The Tur’naak are the cure.”
Zerr’ain; (Translated; Swamp Ghost) Amphibious wyrm-snakes, distant descendants of the Titanaboa. Their scales are mottled bluish, greenish, or muddy brown. They haunt the Blackwater Swamp, near the Sahr’s territory. 3 feet tall, 25 feet long.
Kaar’vior; (Translated: Man-snatcher Wing) Large vampire bats with brown or black pelts that feed on livestock and children. On rare occasions, they snatch adult humans from the ground, particularly during the Black Silence (Winter). When slain, their wings are often used as cloaks or gliders. 6 foot wingspan, 3 feet long, 2 feet tall. The Suun’tai believe them to be demons sent by Terva to terrorize incompetent hunters or heretics.
And this isn’t all of them!
