The Great War of the Biomes (prologue to Overseer)

Chapter 2

It has been 8 months since Eclipse had left the royal palace, 8 months after the assassination of the Queen. Eclipse was sitting down on the ground in the cool clear night, waiting for any messages being sent on the radio. ‘I’ll never survive this war.’ Eclipse thought to himself, in fact, he wanted to never exist after the assassination. He and another guard which Eclipse didn’t know were both accused for not protecting the queen, now the whole kingdom knows it. “Hey Eclipse, got anything?” One of his comrade Night asked as he walked over to Eclipse. Night was the only Eclipse in his whole platoon that wasn’t mocking him or calling him names. Eclipse nodded. “Anyways, chicken?” Night said, offering a chicken leg to Eclipse. Eclipse took the offer and munched on it.

“Look, I know that life for you was stressful, but I could offer you a deal.” Night said, his facial expression turned serious. “What is it?” Eclipse asked as he threw away the chicken bone. “There's an organization called the Tails, a place where there's peace, creatures that don't want to be part of the war.” Night said. “And?” “If you help me become the commander of this platoon I would gladly help you get there. Imagine Eclipse, a place where there’s no fighting, no deaths, no blood!” Night continued. Eclipse wanted to accept the deal, but would he become a fugitive and a criminal for deserting the army? And most of all, leave his life there? “I’ll think about it.” Eclipse replied as he went to his tent.

“Ka-Boom!” Eclipse quickly woke up to the sound of the explosion. Shadowmanes were running around, shouting orders at one another. “Eclipse! We’re under attack, Commander Sun ordered us to retreat.” Night said in a quick tone. Eclipse quickly grabbed his spear and followed the rest of the Shadowmanes into the forest. They all turned invisible so their enemies wouldn’t see them. “Agh!” Eclipse cried out loud as a sharp pain went through his left hind leg. The machine was stabbed by a spear and the spear went through his leg.

Eclipse went tumbling down on a nearby hill. Eclipse could hear the Rockdrakes in the forest, looking for anybody that’s alive. Half the hill that Eclipse tumbled on was filled with dead Shadowmanes. Eclipse tried to turn invisible, but his left leg couldn’t. Eclipse closed his eyes tight, praying. He waited until there was no sound left. Eclipse got up and got the machine out of the spear. “ARGH!” Eclipse grunted as he tried to pull the spear out of his leg, but it was stuck. Eclipse looked around and started to make his way slowly back to the other camp. The sunset made no use of his cover. Soon night fell in, and Eclipse was all by himself.

“Eclipse! Eclipse! Guys! Eclipse is alive!” A Shadowmane shouted as he pointed at Eclipse. He spends hours of walking in the dark forest, leaving trails of slight blood behind.

Just when he was about to get to the camp, everything faded black.
