War in the Mountains
Prologue: Behold a Pale Horse: The Start of the War
The head of the wyvern scout group, Cobra, grinned evilly. ‘Those Raptori heretics must be slain. The Void Wyrm is the true king of Rel’dök!’ (Rel’dök is the Wyvern name for the continent). The wyverns roared their approval, eyes ablaze with the hunger for conquest. Cobra loosed a blaze of flame into the sky, a symbol for the main group to move forth, and with them, incoming doom for the Raptors…
Chapter One: To Kill a Demon
(Pyro POV)
My eyes scanned the dead forest, darting into cover to avoid an incoming wyvern patrol. ‘Overseer above…. They call themselves ‘wyverns’. Demons, more like it. .’ I snarled. ‘They are no Dragon-children, as they claim to be. They crawled up from that horrible crevice of theirs, destroying the Stygian Isles, scorching the very snow. How, I know not.’ I muttered, tapping a talon against a rock. Clawlock padded up behind me, eyes flickering across the ash-filled sky. ‘Are you sure you should be out of the dens? A Demon could grab you any time.’ he said. ‘You think I don’t know that, brother?’ I asked rhetorically. ‘Fair, Pyro, fair. Now, shall we search this wasteland for food?’ Clawlock said, the faintest trace of a smile on his red-black scaled face. The eerie hiss of wind passing through barren trees would set any raptor on edge, and with the Wyverns having practically taken over the Imperium, there was much more to fear than a falling tree. Another hiss spread through the air, this one reptilian. ‘Heretical raptors! You crawl up from you horrible little holes to set a stain upon the ground!’ A wyvern said at it landed. Almost instantly, it lunged at Clawlock. He side-stepped and slashed his claws at the Demon’s snout. It darted backward, then I launched myself at the Demon’s chest, all claws stabbing into the wyvern’s stomach, slashing at anything I could. Clawlock reappeared, battered by the Demon’s tail, a large slash along his arm. ‘You need help?’ He asked. I shook my head, then tilted it towards the caves. ‘Get to base. Tell Mom and General Typhoon to prepare.’ I said. The wyvern painfully twisted its head, strange red eyes aglow. ‘You…can’t…win…,.’ It wheezed. I knew I had hit something vital. Then, the Demon’s feeble breathing faded. The horrible roar of more wyverns came like a cacophony of terror and rage. The sole word I could make out was ‘Dragonslayer’.
