Chapter II: Wrath of the Quiet
A scorched skeletal deinonychus stood at the edge of a cliff. The Risen’s eyes scanned through the canyon underneath it. Spotting a lone Ovis, the Host scampered down the cliff side, its talons leaving infinitesimal scratches in the ancient adobe. The Risen jumped the last five feet of the cliff wall, landing with a slight cracking noise as the stone broke under the Risen’s hardened claws. The Ovis turned to the Sand Devil and promptly fell to the ground like a sack of potatoes. ‘Well…one cannot waste a kill.’ The Risen Demon croaked. It slashed the barbed tip of its tail across the fallen goat, killing it near instantly. The Sand Devil looked around the canyon, saw three raptors, and calmly walked up to them. All three bowed to it. That was their last movements. The Risen used its barbed tail to decapitate one, punched a claw through the throat of one in front of it, and slit the throat of the other. T’was a whirlwind of death, so (much) was the Risen’s anger. (Author’s Note: I was a history major).

The Demon of the Desert prowled around the canyon, killing anything that moved. An example was a small triceratops, scrounging for food in the barren desert. It had its frill ripped out and its entrails torn to shreds. Another, a stegosaurus herd. All were torn to ribbons, their bones in disturbing display of a one-sided battle. A full-grown Rex had its heart and brain ripped out, its spine pushed forward so that it pierced the apex predator’s skull, and its claws taken and stabbed in its own throat. And lastly, a pack of allosaurs had their eyes, claws, and hearts ripped out. In that order. Their bones were used to make the shape of a throne, which the Demon rested in for three days to restore the energy it had spent.
