Chapter 15

Goon grumbled as a pebble flicked him in the face. He opened an eye. It was his shadow, somehow managing to throw little rocks at him without a body. It was slithering around frantically. Goon shut his eyes again, ignoring it. Another pebble hit him in the face. "What?" he growled.

His shadow changed shapes, putting on a show to communicate. It morphed into a deinonychus and began running and gliding in place.

"Alisa?" Goon asked.

The shadow nodded. Quickly it changed shape, growing larger. The feathered arms of a deino became bat-like wings until the shadow was in the shape of a wyvern. It mimicked a roar. "Shadow wyverns? Was she captured?"

The shadow shook its head. This time, the head shape stayed as it was, and the tail became the head of a deino. A deino attacking a wyvern. Goon didn't need any more hints. "She went after her sister," he sighed. He pushed himself to his feet. "Where is she?" The shadow changed into the large horned snake it been when it led Goon through the desert. "The desert. Of course," Goon groaned.

The shadow led the way and, while it still wasn't pleasent to be in the heat, Goon had started to get better at handling it. The shadow stopped at a high dune and pointed its head forward. Goon could make out what looked like a nest crawling with wyverns. As he squinted his eyes, he could make out the shape of a deino slipping through the entrance unoticed.
