Chapter 11

Goon collapsed onto the snow in releif. The sun was begining to set and the heat was already fading even in the desert. "Please," he said, taking in the cold air, "Don't ever make me have to chase you into the desert again." He waited a while for a response, but Alisa remained silent. He opened his eyes and turned to look for her. She was standing there, frozen, staring at the sky back in the direction they had come from. A look of sheer horror was on her face.

Goon turned around, expecting to see the large bird coming back for them, but he instead saw something he'd never seen before. He'd heard tales of a dragon before, but this creature didn't fit the exact description. A second one appeared out of the darkness behind the first. "What are they?" Goon muttered. "Shadow slave wyverns," Alisa mumbled, seemingly dazed. The second wyvern snapped its head in their direction and let out a roar. Without warning it dived and sped towards them.

"Run!" Alisa shouted. They took off deeper into the tundra. There was a crack between two rocks just barely large enough for Alisa to slip between, two small for the wyvern to catch her. "Goon!" she shouted.

"Stay there," he yelled back. His shadow, still in snake form, slithered ahead of him. Goon winced as he ran. His injury was slowing him down, and the wyvern was catching up. His shadow dashed into what looked like a small cave, big enough for Goon to fit. He took off for it and ran inside.

It was a shallow cave, and Goon turned after reaching the cave wall. The wyvern screeched at him as it flew towards the cave. It's jaws stopped just short of Goon's face. It was too large to fit it's entire body in. It snapped at him, trying to snatch him out. Goon took a second to let his heart slow down, and waited for the wyvern to give up.
