To make Gene Scanner, combine Black Pearl, Electronics, Crystal, Metal Ingot, and Polymer in a Fabricator for 15 seconds. The Gene Scanner unlocks at level 86 and requires 11 Engram Points.
There is an option on this you can use to track down hard to find creatures like cosmo or giant bees have not tested tracking deathworms with it yet
