In fjordur if you pick the plants with the flowers on top you can find silk. Its not a common drop so you have to pick a bit

On ASA Mantis gets the same amount of silk as fiber in scorched earth from the flowers. Mantis isn't listed as a gatherer for silk but it is great for it.

I once got serveral hundred silk off one of the farting moths and I only used a metal hatchet.
