Rate Tips
TldR:
Shoot it with a sniper from a distance, let it pick you up, always fly up, take notes of what to repeat in the first Phase, fireball in the second Phase, keep the left meter half filled during the third Phase, Feed Kibble in the fourth Phase.
Long Version:
Pretty easy tame If you know what to do:
You'll need to prepare:
- Good Armor
- A Sniper (the highest one you have) + Ammo
- Exceptional Kibble or Higher
- Either Parachutes or a shoulderpet allowing you to fly/slowfall (I recommend drakelings), in Case you do get dismounted
- Then, either someone, whom to dictate the necessary manoeuvres, a second monitor where you have a texteditor open or a piece of paper/different device to note down the manoeuvres. (I tried all of those, they work for me, but tabbing into an editor might not be for everyone; Dictating is the easiest because you don't have to look away from the screen)
Then on to the taming itself:
0. Put the Sniper in your hotbar (fully load it, you don't want to and the kibble in the last slot of your hotbar. Either pick up your shoulder mount or put your parachutes into your hotbar. Wear your armor, in case the Lumina gets close enough to attack you a few times.
1. Find a high Level Lumina, I prefer using a flying mount for this.
2. Keep a large distance from it, make sure there are no aggressive dinos near you, dismount your mount, cryo your mount
3. Snipe the Lumina repeatedly with a short Break in between (a second should be more than enough). If its health is Low enough to grab you, it will disappear and reappear above you. That's the reason we use the Sniper (aside from the predictable damage Output compared to a Shotgun)
4. Congratulations, the dangerous part is over. Now the actual taming starts.
5. During this entire time, YOU control where it's going! You should use this to go straight up whenever you can. If you get to high, it starts to dive, taking control from you for a few seconds. This is not a problem, so just go up until then.
6.The Lumina has 4 phases it repeats until taming is finished. It starts every Phase with a "preparing" countdown:
- Phase A: You have to repeat manoeuvres the Lumina does.
A1: This is where your friend or second monitor/device or paper comes into play. The Lumina will do 5 manoeuvres you then have to repeat in order. You either have to memorize them (which i don't recommend) or somehow put them to writing, either by dictating them to someone whom puts them down and tells them back to you later when you need them or by writing them down yourself, on PC potentially by tabbing out to a different window (you can still control flight direction by moving your mouse oder the ARK window).
Be aware, that the Lumina sometimes does a manoeuvre while it's still counting down. In this case the manoeuvre must not be repeated. You can see this by the little grey circles above the four colored circles. Only when a new grey circle appears is the manoeuvre to be repeated.
A2: After it did five manoeuvres it takes a bit of time, then tells you to repeat them. Either tell your friend to repeat the keys back to you or read them from wherever you wrote them down.
- Phase B: You have to shoot teleport anchors that appear around you.
Don't bother with anything but the projectile attack. Go into first person for this, look at a teleport anchor, press the button shown above the rightmost yellow circle (on PC it's right mouseclick). Wait until the projectile is at the anchor, then press the same button again to recall the projectile, creating an explosion where it currently is.
Don't panic when you miss sometimes, this Phase has a very generous timer.
Phase C: You have to dive for a period of time.
This is why we went up permanently earlier.
The Lumina is in Sprint-Mode for this, like it was in the first Phase. Thus you can see two gauges on your Screen: On the right is stamina in yellow, which is Always füll since it's still being tamed. On the left is Dive-Speed, that's the interesting one. Since the task is to dive for some time, you don't care about speed but only about diving at all. Thus you should dive at an angle that keeps the gauge partly filled but not full.
Phase D: Feeding time.
Once the Lumina prompts you to feed it, do so. That's when it's taming progress goes up, so you can estimate how often you'll have to repeat the entire process, starting at Phase A again.
