Chapter seventeen: Betrayal
“Ahh it feels so good to be out of that dumb jail.” Willow said, holding her knife against her palm and caressing it.
“It’s so good to see you again.” She said digging the blade into her hand. Daniel winced. Willow had a very very high pain tolerance, he’d once saw her take a round of bullets in the arm and not even flinch.
She scooped a bunch of her long hair to her shoulders and cut her hair jaggedly with the knife. The mysterious woman had let out of the cell with three days to decide whether or not to work with her. If they refused then she’d send them back to the jail.
Camille yawned. “So how are we going to hide if we’re pretty obviously criminals?” Camille asked softly. Daniel chuckled.
“You mean bc we have you, the winged lady, me the “weird bearded dude” and that woman with the bad haircut?” Daniel asked.
Willow glared at him.
“It’s NOT a bad haircut “darling”.” She said mockingly. Daniel ran his hands through his thick hair. “Are you sure this is a good idea Willow? Maybe we don’t have to be villains.” He said. Camille backed away, sensing a fight she didn’t want to be in.
Willow sneered. “And what? Go back to that cramped prison cell?” Daniel shrugged. “No. But we could go somewhere else. You know start a new life. We could—“ Willow stopped him. “Go back to your precious Josephina? She doesn’t love you, idiot. You’re a villain. You’ve killed millions without blinking a eye. If you think she’ll ever forgive you then you’re dumber than I thought you were.” Willow snarled.
“Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go tell that woman that we agree to her terms.”
Daniel frowned and stepped in front of her. “No. I’m not going to let you do this.” He said calmly. Willow’s eye twitched with annoyance. “Move Daniel. You can’t stop me.” She snapped.
Daniel didn’t move. “I’m not afraid of you Willow.” He said. Willow’s face contorted with rage. “You should be!” She snarled and lunged at him, dagger poised. “It you won’t move then be moved!” Camille jumped into air to avoid their fighting. Daniel tackled Willow and attempted to pin her to the ground.
Willow drove her knife into Daniel’s arm. He howled with pain and grabbed her wrist in a tight grip. “You don’t have to do this Willow! We can start over!” Daniel yelled.
Willow kicked him in the jaw. “Great try Daniel!! I know what I want and it isn’t to be a silly hero!!” Daniel spit out a tooth and squeezed Willow’s wrist that held her knife as hard as possible until she dropped the knife. Then he crushed her under his body weight, holding her neck with one of his hands.
“Stop it Willow!” He cried. “I…hate…you!” She choked. Daniel locked eyes with her. “Willow. Please don’t do this. We can be better than this. We can start a new life. I’ll do anything you want if you uhgrEe. Please Willow.” Daniel begged. Willow squirmed and panted, trying to breath.
“Willow. Please.” She looked toward his face and met his eyes. A strange look came across her face and her eyes softened slightly. A slight smile filled her face and she stopped squirming. “I’m sorry.” She whispered, tears gathering in her eyes. Daniel lifted his weight slightly off her, still hovering over her. Willow searched his eyes, and slowly lifted her arms and placed them around his neck, and pressed her lips against his.
Daniel groaned softly and Willow smoothed the back of his hair as she kissed him. One of her hands dropped from his neck and carefully, lifted the silver sharp dagger from the ground.
Then suddenly Daniel yanked away, breathing heavily. Willow smiled wryly. She deftly pulled her dagger from his chest and pushed his limp body off her. Blood began to flow down his chest and he stared at her, his mouth open in shock. “Why-why did you do this?” He gasped. Willow leaned down over him and put a hand on his cheek, stroking it gently.
A few tears dripped down his nose.
“Will…why? I thought things would—be different?” Willow smiled and a lone tear dripped from her eye. “I’m not like you Daniel. I can’t turn away from my calling. We are meant to serve as assassins. I must get revenge on those who did this too us. To those who hurt you. Who hurt us. I still love you.” Willow said softly, her eyes slowly filling with tears.
“Then why did you..do this?” Daniel asked. Willow smiled. She put her mouth close to his ear and whispered, “Oh Danny I thought you knew why. I’m a Villain, darling.”
Then she kissed him on the forehead. Daniel let out a huff of breath and his head lolled to the side. His eyes remained open, lifeless and cold, staring at her blankly.
Camille flew down and landed, her head low, acknowledging that she would follow Willow. Willow rose to her feet and smiled evilly. “Come on Camille. Let’s go.”
