My thoughts were that the villain would have been the brother to one of the kings prior and would want the throne he felt was his. I was thinking maybe he would be able to take over the kingdom and some of the wyverns, with the ones who were loyal to the previous king and the main characters leaving so that they could regroup. Maybe then the main character who is a more common wyvern, by that meaning not of royal blood, fills the leadership void in the outlaw wyverns and helps take back their kingdom. Thoughts?
