Chapter 3: Apex Of My World (part 2)
I turned my head round to look at him, that power coursing from my chest down my spine to every last inch of my body. He tried to tackle me to the ground but I caught him with an uppercut that sent him flying, catching him in midair and pinning him to the ground by his neck with my claws. I roared in his face, fear ebbing into his heart. Shira added on, saying:
“And you can’t even defend against someone who isn’t even trying to hurt you that much,”
I added on to her, stating “There are some that get through life, and some that have to crawl back to their mummy for help,” he scowled and Shira chuckled. “And I know exactly which ones we all are.” I added, releasing him to go and cower away.
After more celebrating and dodgey looks from Malice, we set off to find some fish by the lake. I started thinking. About how they got the behemoth to side with them, about how they tried to give me something I loved… but also how they tried to take me from something I love more. Shira. My feelings of curiosity over them vanished as I looked at her, how she swayed when she walked and her serenity- but also her deadliness. I watched as she beautifully waited, dabbing at the water and was so gentle with everything, but when a fish came too close she skewered it with her razor-sharp claws. She was perfect. And she always was, always will be. I caught a fish in my teeth and brought it over to her. It was a plump and juicy fish, and her eyes lit up when she saw it. I payed it down next to her but she cut it in two, sharing it equally. We finished eating and lay their.
When the sky darkened we woke and headed back for the pride. When we arrived, we saw another of their behemoths but it was not the one I tangled with. Their were clutching more eggs in their hands and the pursuing lizards were being occupied by their other behemoth- the one I scarred. I went for it. It saw me and threw its rider’s commands to the wind- it wanted revenge. I roared, leaped towards it and it flew to meet me in the air. Shira cloaked me and it became disoriented, which let me grab its scar. It burned and bit at me, but in the end I felled my foe. I killed it.
Later on, I went back with some of the lizards but Shira stayed with the ones there. We were about to tell them what happened, but the scout s the drakes had sent returned. They said they were still following the monkeys… it ticked. I realised something horrid.
“SHIRA!”
Big story- had to split it in two parts. Hope you enjoyed!
