The War of the Phoenixes.

Chapter ten: Do you remember?

Josephina/ Hailey stepped out of her bedroom. All dressed and ready for training. But it wasn’t training that she was looking for. Jaquin, she needed to find him. She wasn’t sure what to call herself. Josephina? Or Hailey? She decided to stick with Josephina. It was her real name after all, and it felt homey to her.

She had remembered almost everything. ‘I’m guessing that when you’re memory is erased so many times you remember more.’ Josephina thought to herself. Should she tell father- I mean Tom? She had to stop calling him ‘father’ however it was a rather hard habit to break. But she had had a REAL father. He was kind and loved her. And that was all the mattered.

Josephina turned to Brutus. “Do you know where Jaquin, you know his real name is Jaquin right?, I need to talk to him.” Josephina said. Brutus shook his head. “Nah. If I knew where his room was…I would have finished off that pegomastax a long long time ago.” Brutus growled. Josephina couldn’t help but smile slightly at her best friend. She scratched her between his ears. “Couldn’t you trace her scent to Jaron-i mean Jaquin’s room?” Hailey asked. Brutus frowned. “I guess I could…why didn’t I think of that?”He asked, and then took a long sniff. He paused, looked at Hailey and motioned with his tail for her to follow him.

They walked until they came to a door that was closed. “This is it.” Brutus said, sitting down on his haunches. “Are you sure?” Josephina asked nervously, tugging at one of her hair braids. Brutus grinned. “Well it surely ain’t Master Tom’s room if you’re wondering. He smells like death, dust and old people. Besides…I can recognize that pegomastax’s scent a mile away.” Brutus said. Josephina sighed and raised her hand to knock on the door. “Jaron?” She called.

She heard someone moving on the other side of the door. “I can smell him! It’s the hungry murder hyenadon!” Peggie squeaked from the other side of the door. A thud sounded and Josephina heard a grunt. “Peggie! Get off my face! I can’t see! PEGGIE!!!” Jaron shouted. “Okay, okay I’m SOO sorry!! Does that satisfy you?!” Peggie asked. “No, no it doesn’t. You scratched my eye!” Jaron said. Josephina heard his footsteps coming toward the door. Slowly if opened and Jaron came out. He smiled at her. Peggie sat on his shoulder, looking nervous

Brutus licked his lips. “What do you need?” Jaron asked. Josephina took a deep breath. “I need to talk to you.” Josephina said. Jaron nodded slowly. “OK…come in.” Jaron said. “Not Brutus though!” Peggie screeched. Jaron frowned at her. “Peggie.” He said in a warning voice. Peggie grimaced, and said through clenched teeth, “Fine. Just DON’T eat me!”

They walked into Jaron’s room and Jaron shut the door behind them. In the room there was a giant rug in the middle of the room with a bed on top of it, a storage cabinet, and a tiny bed on top of the cabinet for Peggie. “Jaron, there’s something I need to tell you.” Josephina said. Jaron cocked his head at her. “Ok..what is it?” Josephina inhaled. “My name isn’t Hailey..it’s Josephina and your name isn’t Jaron it’s Jaquin. Tom is not our father.” Josephina said. Jaron frowned at her. “What are you taking about?” He asked. “We lived in a place called Tortuga, with our REAL parents and our siblings. Don’t you remember? D ok you ever wonder why we have strange dreams? Do you want ever wonder why are memory is so foggy?” Josephina asked.

Jaron blinked and shook his head. “No, no. I think we need to take you to Tom. You’re acting strange. ” He said. Josephina narrowed her eyes. “No, Jaron. It’s me Josephina! Don’t you remember Jay?! Or our parents?!” Josephina asked, a hint of desperation creeping into her voice. Jaron shook his head slowly. Suddenly the closet door began to rattle and shake. “What is that?!” Josephina asked. “What’s in there?” Jaron bit his lip. “I don’t know! The only in that closet is my clothes!” Jaron said. Brutus crouched, getting ready to pounce. “Whatever it is..I’ll take care of it.” Jaron and Josephina exchanged worried looks. The closet door shook even harder and the knob suddenly began to twist and then…
