Chapter five

“You will either serve or meet your demise.” Draco’s words echoed through Talia’s memory. Talia lay, curled up in a cage hanging over a room filled with Draco’s guards. The room was lit by torches. All around her, other wyverns hung in their cages. Nearby her was the large wyvern who had spoken up against Slither, the tiny lizard like wyvern. Talia paced back and forth in the cage, biting her lip worriedly. She had to do something! She didn’t want to be stuck following some dragon for the rest of her life.

“Would you mind quieting down?” The wyvern nearby asked, not unkindly more like impatiently. Talia paused her pacing and stared at him. “Sorry.” She said. The wyvern sighed. “It’s okay.” He said, while attempting to pick the lock of his cage with the tip of his tail. “I’m Talia. What’s your name?” Talia asked him. The wyvern glanced at her. He had bronze colored scales and dark, soft, brown eyes. “I’m Blaze.” He said softly.

“Ok.” Talia said, curling back up, her tail wrapped around her protectively. Blaze paused his “lock picking”. “Where are you from kid?” He asked, although he was about the same age as her. “I made my home in the redwoods forest. i didn’t know there were other wyverns besides myself. I didn’t want to come here and serve anyone. I want to live freely.” Talia said quietly. Blaze chuckled.

“Don’t we all?” He asked. Talia sighed and then sat up suddenly, a idea popping into her head. “What if we ALL try to escape?” She asked in a loud whisper. Several wyverns in cages nearby turned their heads to look at her. “Shh!” Blaze snarled. He paused for a second until all the other wyverns looked away and turned back to Talia. “I’m listening.” Blaze said. Talia flicked her tail excitedly. “I have a idea. Draco and his guards don’t expect us to work together. They think that we are all loners and won’t stick together. We might all be able to escape if we band together!” Talia whispered. Blaze cocked his head at her and grinned sideways. “I like the way you think kid. What do you have in mind?”
