Taming & KO Tips
How do I tame a giant bee? Tips and strategies on taming and knocking out a giant bee.
The best part of this thing is you don't have to lead it home you can just pick it up and it will turn into the hive
I love how it says it's a herbivore but it eats meat????
Use frog/toad to destroy hive then tame queen be careful not to hurt the queen.
You can build a box around some hives so you don't have to chase it.
If it buzzes at you just back up watch it from a distance for a minute. get behind it and just run spamming feed. Pretty effective without ghille or repellent
You can destroy a hive with a wyvern bite. Minting a wyvern protects you from begin attacked by drones. You can also kill drones released during destroying after queen is out and you can still tame it unless drones which are following her are untouched.
After transforming the queen into the hive and demolishing it I didn’t get the queen back.
Break the hive, use big repellent and feed the queen rare flowers. Pick up the queen and she turns into the hive to be placed.
Gigas NO LONGER DAMAGE HIVES. People have complained about this for years without an official response, but I can confirm that Giga bites do not affect hives in any way. Actually kind of annoyed, it really doesn't make any sense.
Easiest way : go to ab then look for the hives , the hives stack so destroy all hives with a mana or whichever tame you have then the bee will be stuck in the hive , what you can do is is get an angle on the bee and easy tame while its sitting
Two words: Dire Bear
A helpful tip should include a few more words
USE A EQUUS it breaks bee hive in one hit from buckick use gillie And put bug repellent on you and the equus i done it lots the bees don’t even fight back
If you are playing on console non-dedicated server. Their is a bug where you’ll see loads of wild Queen bees just floating around. As well as invincible nest. (Or no nests found) I took advantage and tamed every queen bee I saw flying around.
You can use a Rhyniognatha to destroy the nest with no issues.
Lost island queen bees are roaming around, so just put rare flower in the last slot to tame.
My method to tame the queen is to be slightly back where you will have time to kill the bees and use something with area damage like a trike. Then i slowly shoot it down and kill the incoming bees eith my trike. I use a spyglass to make sure that im ready to aproach. Once the nest is in its one shot range i just get close and finish it off to start of the queens tame. Then i do the same thing with my trike and play a little gsme with the queen.chase feed fight repeat.
Their favorite kibble is simple kibble now
PC players on Lost Island- I’ve read that finding queens can be nearly impossible but I’ve consistently found queens each time I bust a hive in a specific easy to find location so thought I’d share.
1. Go to redwoods castle (that island encircled by a river in the SE center ish of the map)
2. From there fly out from the castle in the direction of the bridge that leads to the redwoods surrounding the castle.
3. Fly away from the bridge direction a bit to the right towards the opening in the trees you’ll see but then after entering that cleft in the trees, turn hard left off that clearing to follow the cliff face that’s behind the first row of trees that are by the water edge.
4. Shortly you will come to a gouge in the cliff with a convenient place to land on a sort of natural ramp looking formation, and either side of that where the cliff recedes up the natural stone ramp you landed on, there are some spawn points for hives. They can be easily reached while riding a bear, but you may need to build a small ramp using a few pillars, foundations, ramps, and ceiling tile since bears can’t jump. Sometimes I’ve found two hives at once there. I haven’t managed to tame the queen yet but every time I’ve found a hive there and broke it with my bear it has a queen. PS if you have a sinomacrops on your shoulder pet turn the scream off or it will scare away and even kill the queen >_< RIP second bee queen.
Enjoy
Tips for taming a giant bee (Easily in 2022)
Quick and short method below;
• Tame a dire bear
• Create a walkway to the bee hive so you and your dire bear can reach the hive easily
• Use dire bear to break the bee hive so the queen bee can be out for the taming process
• Once the queen bee is out and ready to be tamed, make sure you have it’s preferred food to tame. (Queen bee is a passive tame which accepts Simple Kibble [Quantity of 1]
Rare Flowers [Quantity of 4-6] But keep in mind the queen bee won’t accept food if you’re visible to her. She must not know you’re around so you can feed her passively)
Long and detailed method below ;
> Depending on your map, you want to find a bee hive and make a trap around your hive you may want.
( Making a 2x2 trap that’s 1 wall high seems to be very effective, and don’t forget to add a roof to stop the swarming bees from entering and don’t forget to put a door inside the trap for you to go in and out of it.)
> Once your trap is built you want to make sure you have ghillie armor crafted and worn. Using bug repellant while in the ghillie suit seems to be very effective.
> When you have gotten this far, you want to try and destroy the bee hive with anything you got. Whether it be your own fist, a melee weapon or a ranged weapon. Dino’s work as well. (Preferably though, ranged weapons would be best, especially if you have flame arrows.)
> Once the bee hive is broken you’ll notice there is a giant bee now inside your trap, here you want to use 2 things preferably. Either Simple Kibble or 4-6 rare flowers.
( Keep in mind this is a passive tame, and if you’re not able to feed the bee, it’s because the bee has noticed you.You want to make sure the bee you’re taming hasn’t noticed you so you can get the option to feed your food. Also make sure your taming food is in last slot of your hotbar)
> Once your bee is tamed, you’re now allowed to make giant bee honey freely !!!
••• Once your bee is tamed, you can use your queen bee to produce honey every 45 minutes with rare flowers. •••
~ Go to the queen bee’s options and hover over the nesting option. Should be the very top option. From here you want to place the bee hive on the floor of the game.
~ Pro tip; The Dire bear can stack honey in its inventory, and when collecting by hand from your bee hive, bees will still attack you every time you come to collect honey. To prevent this, it’s recommended to wear a ghillie suit.
There you go, hopefully you all enjoyed and benefitted this in some way or another, Take care :’)

For late game Bee taming, use simple kibble on increased tame rate weekends or events. Use a Quetzal to fly up and peck the hives to break them and then follow on the Quetzal once the bee is free. You can jump up off the saddle and not fall and die, so even if you get stung, it’s not a death sentence. Follow the queen with the kibble in the far right hotbar slot and feed it. Then go up to her and she has a “obtain hive” button that turns her into a hive and she adds to your inventory as a structure. Now you can place the hive like a structure, but only on bare ground. I’ve tried every method out there, traps, cages, building around it, chasing it on foot, and all have failed, but using a Quetzal made the difference first time out with it.
